Endless Consciousness - Available September 2010

http://pimvanlommel.nl/?home_eng

For more than twenty years cardiologist Pim van Lommel has studied near-death experiences (NDEs) in patients who survived a cardiac arrest. In 2001, he and his fellow researchers published a study on Near Death Experiences in the renowned medical journal The Lancet. He, then, wrote the Dutch bestseller Endless Consciousness in 2007; over 100.000 copies were sold in the first year.
The NDE is an authentic experience which cannot be attributed to imagination, psychosis or oxygen deprivation. After such an profound experience, patient’s personalities underwent a permanent change. In Van Lommel’s opinion, the current views on the relationship between the brain and consciousness held by most physicians, philosophers and psychologists is too narrow for a proper understanding of the NDE phenomenon. The author provides examples and ways that our consciousness does not always coincide with brain functions; that consciousness can even be experienced separate from the body.

An expression of interest was made recently:

I am an NDEr with research interests particularly in how the experience can inform our psychiatric work.

Please send an email to the Network if yo are able to assist.

The NDE Network Australia has been contacted in regards to the possibility of a national event, possibly on an annual basis.

Please express an interest for such an event by sending an email.

In your correspondence you may want to indicate where you would like to see the event take place, when and for how long. In addition, any suggestions to the format of this event are appreciated.

The following question was submitted:

I did not find any cases that talked about physical bodily sensations of life fleeting, being snuffed out, from nowhere, with out a known physical illness. Have you heard of such cases?

Answer: Yes

The U3A in Sydney presents 4 lectures entitled Exploring the Near Death Experience on Feb 8,15, 22 and Mar 15 2010.

Dear Childhood NDEers,

You have the chance to participate in a study to help near-death researchers understand more about the childhood near-death experience and psychotherapy.  The researcher not only wants to learn what people who had an NDE as a child experienced, but also what they would like to achieve from attending therapy.  It is hoped that the results of this study will bring awareness to the mental health and medical fields about the importance of being trained to identify and treat the special needs of children who experienced near-death such as integration of aftereffects.

Participants must be 18 years or older, younger than 18 when NDE occured, and have read and agreed to the Consent to Participate.  This survey will take approximately 30-40 minutes to complete.  You are invited to participate whether or not you have experience with psychotherapy.  The results of the surveys are one way for researchers to learn what NDEers want from therapy, so that treatment programs may be designed specifically for childhood NDEers.

Please feel free to foward the survey to Childhood NDEers that would like to participate.

In addition, please contact the  researcher if you would prefer to have the survey mailed to you instead of completing the online version of the survey.

Thank you!

Can anyone help?

The NDE Network received the following emails:

I once heard a documentary on ABC radio in the late 1980's that was originally aired on JJJ FM in Sydney. I was so impressed that I bought the book version. I have since lost the book and have been searching recently for a transcript of the interviews that formed the basis of the book. One interviewee was a middle aged Victorian man, from Gippsland, surname McKay I believe, who had a NDE at age 14 in which he was able to see the history of the world.up until the time of his death. He was taken to a kind of waiting room where he saw unembodied "intelligences" awaiting their opportunity to come to earth at the time of birth.  What he related was so profound I've never forgotten it. i always meant to try and find him, but never made the attempt. He may have submitted his story to your site. If you know of him then it would be superb to have the story reprinted.

Hello,

I was so glad to find an Australian branch of IANDS. Perhaps you may be able to help me with an inquiry.
On the 29th September 07 - at 3 or 4pm, Channel 7 broadcast a wonderful documentary programme about different people's near death experiences. There were interviews and some quite strong visual depictions of after life as viewed by different people of different faiths.
I recall some Buddhist, possibly Tibetan depiction - with cautionary advice for crossing over safely. I managed to see about two thirds of the programme and recall that it was broad in its approach. The TV programme guide listed it with the title 'Is there life after death?'

I would love to see this video again or buy a copy if it is available. Does anyone remember this documentary or know of its whereabouts?
